There she is, our book!
We could not be happier to have In the Small Kitchen in our hands. It’s been a year and a half since we landed a book deal, and in spite of the hard work we were doing on the blog and in the kitchen, every day has really been a countdown to this one.
For those of you who have been fans over at BGSK from the beginning, thank you for reading, commenting, and sticking with us! For those of you who are new to SKC, we are thrilled to be able to add this book to your small kitchen arsenal.
The book is a quirky encyclopedia for recent grads moving into first apartments, and setting out to cook first meals there. But much of its wisdom and stories go all the way back to when we ourselves were in college. Cara found one true remedy for the kitchenless dorms: chocolate bark, which she made in her microwave (grossly located in the dorm bathroom).
The love of chocolate bark has stuck with us four years (eek!) after graduation. In fact, we featured one version in our very first BGSK post and another in our book below.
Hop on over to BGSK to check out our favorite chocolate bark variations and mix-ins. And if you’d like to try out our recipe in the book, comment below for a chance to win a signed copy!
To enter the In The Small Kitchen Giveaway, you must:
We’ll announce the randomly selected winner on 5/31. Good luck!

I made my first chocolate bark last night! It was coconut, cherry and almond in dark chocolate, and it was delicious. I was a little worried about storage because I didn’t temper the chocolate, but there was no need since my boyfriend ate it all!

My favorite? LOTS of nuts. At least 72% dark chocolate with pecans, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, pepitas, pumpkin seeds- a hint a cayenne pepper would be delightful!
